Are you operating within the law?

Recorded images of people are covered by the Data Protection Act 1998.

Using an unregistered CCTV system to record people is a criminal offence – unless the system meets the criteria set out in the Data Protection Act.

The Data Protection Act is enforced by a government department called the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). To simplify the use of CCTV systems, the ICO has produced a CCTV Code of Practice which guides the user through the dos and don’ts of using CCTV.

As CCTV experts, Camrascan Security can ensure that every CCTV and IP CCTV system it installs meets the standards required by the Data Protection Act. We can also advise you on how to use and store images to ensure you don’t break the law.

For more information about CCTV and the Data Protection Act, visit the ICO’s website or download a copy of the CCTV Code of Practice.
